Slick met up with Stavros Konstantinos, the brains behind salon chain Oskar Pink, to see if he had any insights into upcoming hairstyles that salons should be on the lookout for. As we discussed the pros and cons of the ‘lob’ and the ‘short back and sides’, it was another hairstyle that surprised and silenced - can it really be making a comeback? What hairstyle is it we are referring to you ask, THE MULLET!

The mullet haircut has been controversial since became popular in the ’80s. As rock and roll took over the mainstream music scene, the haircut did the same, slowly creeping in to become one of the most iconic styles of its time.

For those of you who didn’t live through them the first time, the mullet simply leaves a length of hair on the back of the head that is much longer than the rest of the hair - the image above shows you what they looked like back in the day!

But apparently this contentious style is making a comeback, although, not quite in the same way. We have taken a look round and found that hairdressers around the world are taking the cut and turning it into modern, and if we dare say it, desirable do’s! Take a look at a few of our favourites:

null

Chop chop - this bob-style mullet transforms a usually smooth, grown up style into something that is textured and fun, without removing the sleekness associated with the cut.

null

On the sideline - this mullet is an adaptation of the traditional mohawk. Keeping the length more gradual down the sides and shorter on top makes for a modern look.

Styled out - By combining a smooth fringe with wearable contemporary textures you can transform the mullet into a desirable, everyday look.

Fashion faux yah - keeping the length on the top as well as the back, take the best of the mid length cut and the mullet creating a look worth of the catwalk.
